"I'm Absolutely In": Former Dragons' Den Star James Caan CBE Makes Seven-Figure Investment in SNAG as Brie Read Reveals Landmark Partnership to Hundreds of 'Snagglers'

James Caan Makes Seven-Figure Investment in Inclusive Fashion Brand SNAG

Former BBC Dragons' Den investor and entrepreneur James Caan CBE has made a seven-figure investment in inclusive fashion brand SNAG, backing founder Brie Read and her vision to build a more sustainable, customer-focused fashion business.

The investment was revealed during a live Google Hangout with hundreds of members of SNAG's community, known as "Snagglers," and marks one of Caan's most significant consumer investments in recent years.

Investing in a Different Kind of Fashion Business

Speaking during the announcement, Caan explained that his decision was driven by far more than the company's commercial success. He believes SNAG has created a genuinely different business model—one built around quality, inclusivity and sustainability rather than the waste that has become commonplace across much of the fashion industry.

One of the standout metrics that caught his attention was SNAG's remarkably low returns rate. While many online fashion retailers experience returns of between 30% and 35%, SNAG reports returns of just 2%. That figure not only improves profitability but also significantly reduces unnecessary transport, packaging waste and surplus stock.

For Caan, it demonstrated that customers receive products that fit correctly, perform as expected and meet consistently high quality standards.

"Businesses Are Run by People"

Despite the impressive numbers, Caan said the deciding factor was the founder herself. "Businesses are not run by products; they're run by people." He described Brie Read as authentic, passionate and deeply connected to the customers she serves, believing she is uniquely positioned to continue scaling the business.

An Emotional Moment for Founder Brie Read

Addressing hundreds of Snagglers during the live announcement, an emotional Read reflected on what the investment meant after eight years of building the company.

"To get James Caan to invest in SNAG is an incredible moment for us. I'm going to cry. All of you know how hard this has been on this journey, how alone we've been, and how much of a struggle it's been to keep going.

"It's just incredible not to be alone anymore and to have the support of someone as fantastic as James.

"It's been eight years of my life and I've worked very, very, very hard on this.

"James... are you in?" Caan's response was immediate. "I'm absolutely in, Brie. I'm absolutely in."

Winning Over a Reluctant Investor

Caan admitted fashion is not normally an industry he invests in. Initially telling Read that fashion was "not my wheelhouse," his perspective changed after learning how SNAG develops products specifically designed by women, for women, with comfort, fit and functionality at their core.

The company's 2% returns rate initially seemed almost impossible to him.

"I thought that can't be right because nobody has a 2% success rate." Read explained that customers simply keep SNAG products because they fit properly, do exactly what they're designed to do and consistently deliver on quality.

For Caan, that represented much more than an operational achievement. It was evidence of a sustainable business model that builds customer trust while reducing waste throughout the supply chain.

A Founder and Brand with Global Potential

During the announcement, Caan joked that he had even tried on a pair of SNAG tights during the investment process.

"They didn't suit me," he laughed. Behind the humour, however, was a serious endorsement. "I think not only have I invested in what I believe is an outstanding product, but an outstanding founder."

He praised Read for building SNAG into a business that has sold more than 20 million products in just eight years and believes the company is only at the beginning of its international growth.

"I truly believe this should and will become a household brand. "Whilst it's big in the UK today, there is no question in my mind this is a global product. This is an international product."

Looking Ahead

The seven-figure investment will provide both capital and strategic support as SNAG continues its international expansion while remaining committed to the principles that have defined its success: creating products that genuinely work, reducing waste through exceptional fit and quality, and proving that commercial success and sustainability can go hand in hand.

For Brie Read, the investment marks the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. For James Caan, it is a vote of confidence in both an exceptional entrepreneur and a business he believes has the potential to reshape the future of inclusive fashion.
