The Importance Of Fear Setting By Samanah Duran

SAMANAH DURAN ENTREPRENEUR

'Fear setting?

What if we spent a quantifiable amount of time fear setting as opposed to goal setting, what if we actually focused a small portion of our morning thinking routine really trying to understand and define our what we fear the most. Then that way we can work out a way to seek comfort at the thought of it, we can also find a way to overcome the self-paralysis of said fear and take action when ever, where ever needed. It sounds a little crazy, I'm sure. But surely, it's worth a shot to fully transcribe what could ever possibly send us in to a potential melt down, pen to paper. Go!

Still in need of a little encouragement?

Sometimes our imagination can take a hold of us

Yes, that's right. Sometimes just the thought of something ever happening, can really send our imagination wild, when in actual fact the reality of it happening to us may mean we aren't as likely to suffer as much as we truly think we would. For those that suffer with anxiety, you'd know exactly where I'm coming from with this concept. How often do you spend time mulling over your fear, the sleepless nights, and the non-stop "what if's" over this so called life-threatening problem? Now by bringing to light that very same fear, you can stop exaggerating the situation, over estimating the severity of the issue, and the unrealistic expectations that come with it by facing it front on, projecting it out into the open. You are only imagining the the issue at the peak of its worst case scenario, when it's very possible that it's not as horrifying in reality as you'd have thought, which leads me to my next point.

You are underestimating your own capabilities

The issue with this thinking style, is right there. You are totally undervaluing your strengths, you are totally underestimating just how truly great you are and the ability you have to apply to yourself well in said situation.

How offended would you feel if you were to tell a friend of yours this "fear," only for them to respond by telling you how dreadful you would be at handling the situation? No true words of encouragement, or support given, you'd think of your friend pretty awful, wouldn't you? So why are you aren't you being a great friend to yourself? Why aren't you crushing that inner critic and silencing those self-sabotaging thoughts that are doubting your brilliance? By getting to grips with fear setting, this will give you the best possible chance at helping you to navigate around the narrative to receive the best possible outcome (if or when it does happen.)

It's truly time to have the conversation with yourself

How annoying are those that shove problems under the rug? Who skirt around issues? Who simply cannot have an honest conversation with themselves without damaging their own ego, in panic of lowering their self-esteem? I really don't mean to sound terse here, but life is challenging right? Life is tough some times right? However, life is also EXACTLY what you make it. How can you expect to ever get comfortable with the uncomfortable when you cannot even ask yourself what is truly going on. This isn't for you to start bashing yourself, look to attack or blame, or even worse... feel self-pity. This is for you to be able to take accountability and look at a way for the said fear which can be tackled head on and solved.

To allude to all of this, by fear setting and addressing your fears, projecting it out into the open, even just by talking to some one else about your fear, can really really help to eliminate the anxiety around it. Sometimes, by talking about it, allowing it some space and really getting to the core of why you really really hold this fear within, can help you to see it from a different perspective, and maybe with time- you may find its nothing to be fearful of. Remember, that your fear lies within, so stop hyper-focusing, over analysing and get out of the negative frame because you may end up surprising yourself amidst the crisis.
