- Over half a million customers are generally dissatisfied with America’s richest companies, new research reveals
- Only ten Fortune 500 companies have a positive net count of loyal customers
- 129 of the wealthiest US businesses have a negative customer loyalty rating of -82%
- The study uses the 2023 edition of Fortune 500’s top-grossing businesses in the US as a seed list, available at https://fortune.com/ranking/fortune500/search
- The researchers matched companies with each of their profiles on Trustpilot.com. Companies missing from the platform are excluded. Only parent companies are evaluated, rather than any brands they might own.
- Review counts and individual 1-5 scores are collected for each remaining company, true as of May 1st, 2024. Businesses with less than 50 reviews are further excluded. This leaves a total of 129 companies whose Trustpilot reviews are available.
- 5-star reviews are labelled as promoters and their count was expressed as a percentage of the total number of Trustpilot ratings.
- 1-, 2- and 3-star reviews are labelled as detractors and their count is summed and expressed as a percentage of the total number of Trustpilot ratings.
- To measure each company’s net promoter score (NPS), the percentage for detractors is subtracted from the percentage of promoters (i.e. NPS = % promoters - % detractors).
- The final ranking orders the 129 companies based on their NPS score, from highest to lowest, to suggest whose customers are most loyal.
